Upcoming Events at the Taos Opera Guild

Two excursions to exciting performances at The Santa Fe Opera

The first trip on July 20, 2016 is to experience Charles Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette.  There are 30 seats available.  Gounod uses his mastery of graceful melody and superb musical craft to immerse us in the greatest of all romances.  The rising young star, Allyn Perez sings Juliette and Stephen Costello debuts as Romeo. This performance is conducted by Harry Bicket and the stage director is Stephen Lawless.  We will travel together on a comfortable bus from Taos.  During our ride we will enjoy sparkling wine and snacks.  Once we arrive at the Santa Fe Opera we will enjoy an alfresco buffet dinner with wine in the Dapples Pavilion followed by a preview talk on this opera.  Our seats for the opera will be in a category 3 section.  At the conclusion of the performance we will again board our bus for the trip back to Taos.  The cost for this excursion is $185 for Taos Opera Guild members and $200 for non-members.  This includes the bus, dinner and opera tickets.

AN ADDED BONUS for the Romeo et Juliette performance ticket holders is a free presentation by Oliver Prezant in the outdoor courtyard of Nancy and Jim Schultz on Sunday, July 17.  Oliver is the main presenter for the SFO and is preparing a special in depth program for us to especially enhance our Romeo et Juliette opera experience. Nancy is planning to serve old fashioned New England strawberry shortcake.

Our second 2016 experience at the opera will be for an August 15th performance of Don Giovanni.  This excursion includes a managed tailgate supper.  Nancy Schultz is designing the menu and will provide lobster salad for everyone.  The 20 people attending will be assigned a dish to share for 10  to round out the meal.  DO NOT FEAR, all recipes will be simple but elegant…no need to be a gourmet cook!  Transportation to the Santa Fe Opera is on your own.  You may bring wine or your refreshment of choice. Jim Schultz will make wine suggestions.  After a wonderful supper, we will enjoy a performance of the popular opera, Don Giovanni by Mozart.  We have enhanced seats in section 4 for this performance.  Favorite artists such as Isabel Leonard and Daniel Okulitch are included in the cast along with debuts by Rhian Lois and Egaras Montvidas.  Also debuting is set Director Ron Daniels, former Associate Director of the American Repertory Theater.  The cost for this excursion is $105 for members and $120 for non-members.

If you wish to join us for either one or both of these experiences, send your check and a note with your choice and contact information to Taos Opera Guild, PO Box 3322, Taos, NM 87571.  As always, your reservation is confirmed at the time our treasurer receives your check, so book soon!

 “Met Live-in-HD” Presentations in Taos

The Met Live Talks and Brunch continue to grow in popularity here in Taos. Our breakfast gatherings immediately
preceding the Met Live broadcasts at the Taos Center for the Arts, host at least 40 people for each performance date.  Member of the Taos Opera Guild present the talks on the opera after everyone enjoys a delicious meal at the Taos Inn.  The Taos Opera Guild is proud to be a sponsor of the Met Live in HD broadcasts at the Taos Center for the Arts.

Taos Guild Events Support Opera Education and Appreciation in Taos

Guild Sponsors Youth Attendance at MET Live HD Performances

The members of the Taos Opera Guild and other members of the Taos community have donated to a special fund to support local high school student attendance at several of the Met Live HD performances at the Taos Community Auditorium. In October 2015, Over 20 music students from Taos High School attended the recent performance of Otello with their tickets and lunch paid through the fund. Before the performance Nancy Schultz gave an informative talk on the Opera. After the Opera a panel of Taos Guild members (Frank Crews, Ryan Allais, and Marguerite Lambert) led a discussion and answered questions prepared by the youth. The event was organized by Guild Board members, Anne Stillman and Cindy Campbell..
