About the Taos Opera Guild
In existence since the mid 1960’s, the Taos Guild has supported The Santa Fe Opera and provided a social network for those interested in opera who live in Taos County.  Beyond the Guilds of The Santa Fe Opera, Inc. (our official non-profit corporation) benefits, members of the Taos Guild enjoy:

  • Reduced prices for our trips to Santa Fe opera performance, tailgate suppers and a number of opera-related events in Taos,
  • A free Member Brunch,
  • Advance notice of music and opera events in Taos, and
  • Our newsletter, Libretto.

 “Met Live-in-HD” Presentations in Taos

For the last five years, the Guild has been a major force in boosting attendance at the Met Live in HD series at the Taos Community Auditorium (TCA). Before each event, the Guild encourages all attending the opera to meet at Doc Martin's Restaurant at the Historic Taos Inn for "Briefings and Breakfast." After a wonderful breakfast, a member of the Taos Opera Guild provides a short talk about the opera to be seen that morning. The briefings are quite entertaining with props and annotated remarks. The group has only a short walk to the TCA to enjoy the MET Live performances. The Guild members giving talks during the 2013/14 season are Frank Crews, Hank Daniel, Bob Parker, Nancy Schultz, Jim Schultz, Anne Stillman, Suzanne Brock, and Kathy Fortner. We truly thank our opera guild members for their research and enthusiasm in making their presentations so enjoyable.

Taos Guild Events Support Opera Education and Appreciation in Taos

Guild Sponsors Youth Attendance at the
Live HD Performance of Verdi's Falstaff

The members of the Taos Opera Guild and other members of the Taos community have donated to a special fund to support local high school student attendance at several of the Met Live HD performances at the Taos Community Auditorium.  Over 20 music students from Taos High School attended the recent performance of Falstaff with their tickets and lunch paid through the fund.  After the performance a panel of Taos Guild members (Nancy Schultz, Bob Silver and John Mayer) led a discussion and answered questions prepared by the youth.  The event was organized by Guild Board member, Anne Stillman.
